Senator Ping Lacson cooks -- with Google
MANILA, Philippines - Panfilo "Ping" Lacson has gone solo for more than a year since he fled the country to evade arrest in the Dacer-Corbito double murder case.
While in hiding from authorities, the senator learned how to cook with the help of technology, trusting Google for help with making his daily fare.
"Kailangan may kaharap akong Google eh (I must always have Google in front of me)," he said in an interview on ABS-CBN's Umagang Kay Ganda on Tuesday.
For someone who just learned how to cook, Lacson is quite meticulous when it comes to food preparation. While showing Umagang Kay Ganda how to make chicken afritada (chicken with vegetables and tomato sauce) in an on-the-spot cooking demonstration, the senator pointed out that some aspects of the mise en place have gone wrong -- from "too much oil" to "big slices" of onion.
He even said that the idea of a setup is "not challenging."
"Eh naka-ready na lahat, walang challenge eh. Sana 'yung wala pa ['yung mga ingredients] kukunin ko na lang lahat doon (Everything's prepared already, it's not a challenge anymore. It could've been better if I was asked to get the ingredients)," Lacson said.
But is it afritada, really? Instead of placing the ingredients in a wok, Lacson prepared the dish in a shallow pan. He didn't even add tomato sauce, making the finished product look dry.
Apparently, the senator thought he was asked to make chicken filling for empanada, a stuffed pastry.
"Ah akala ko empanada ang gagawin natin? (I thought we're going to make empanadas?)," he quipped.
Even with this little miscommunication, Lacson seems to know how to work in the kitchen.

Irresponsible Social News Article
Whose idea it was to feature this irresponsible Senator who had total disregard of he law of the land. At a time when the people of the Philippines need good news, what kind of social news did abs-cbn put? A "Totally Irresponsible Social News" about a person, Lacson, who is of suspect moral and legal values and whom people don't care one iota about.

I’ve been an avid fan of ABS-CBN news website.
I noticed, however that recently some of the articles that are displayed in the main page which captures attention more than what those breaking news do are kind of cheap, lacking in social and political relevance and has no taste at all.
For the past months, when there were a lot of critical issues floating around and hounding our nation what I found were articles discussing President Noy’s dates and love interests. Kind of strange because while there are a lot of measures and steps being undertaken by the administration (for the benefit of the administration and its supporters) and or important commentaries towards the government (for those critical of the administration) worth mentioning and publishing what we get are tabloid kind of news far from what ABS-CBN news group has been known for and stood for.
And just now, upon Senator Lacson’s surfacing, what is being highlighted is his self taught ability to bake and cook when there are far more relevant questions circling around every one’s minds – is his flee from arrest correct, did the government exert enough effort to find him, who were responsible and behind the Senator’s country hopping, and what implications all these have given to our countrymen? He might have eventually been put out of the case, but the impression being sent is that his evasion and hiding during the time when he was still a suspect plus his abandonment of his legislative duties have been instantly forgotten and has he is now actually being welcomed like a celebrity with all these kinds of fuzz.
I am amazed by the strength of ABS-CBN’s entertainment and showbiz arm. However, its news department should be wary not to adopt it to its news delivery.
Quite disappointing.
