'Bones' Jones brushes off talks of facing Silva
MANILA, Philippines – Mixed martial arts (MMA) champion Jon “Bones” Jones made it clear that he is not inclined to fight reigning UFC middleweight king Anderson “The Spider” Silva.
Jones, current UFC light heavyweight champion, said he’d rather have The Spider as a mentor than an opponent.
“I respect and look up to him so much. For me, the ideal scenario would be having him as my mentor and learn with him after he retires. It would be great for me," Jones said in ESPN.com.
MMA fans are hoping for a dream match between the two MMA superstars as both fighters have similar builds and fighting styles.
But Jones, who has an upcoming bout against former friend Rashad Evans, said he is a big fan of Silva.
"I'd rather not deal with Anderson,” said Jones.
Silva himself is cool on the possibility of fighting Jones.
The 37-year-old MMA champion said he is not interested to climb weight and will likely retire as a middleweight.
