MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) - The online community in Facebook and Twitter broke out in celebration after the UP Fighting Maroons' historic 69-61 win against the UE Red Warriors.

It was the Maroons' first victory since August 22, 2009, snapping an 18-game losing streak.

The hashtag #upfight was the top Twitter trending topic in the Philippines after the game, with basketball fans flooding the micro-blogging site to congratulate the Fighting Maroons.

"Bonfire sa Sunken Garden at holiday tomorrow!" tweeted @womenscentral.

@womenscentral later added that if the Maroons make it as this season’s champions in men’s basketball, they will light a bonfire not just in Sunken Garden but on EDSA.

Furthermore, @womenscentral said: "Uno laht ang @UPMaroons dahil dito!"

Jong de Guzman (@attyjong) wrote "Free Ikot rides tomorrow!" referring to the jeepneys that go around the UP Diliman campus. But de Guzman also added the hashtag #asa.

De Guzman also asked "Where are the commemorative 1-0 shirts?"

UP Professor Eloi Hernandez (@eloindigoart) joked, "UP to ask UAAP board to cancel all remaining games in elimination round, FINAL FOUR na agad!"

Regnard Raquedan (@regnard) joked, “Last time the UP Maroons won, I was still single. #UPFight #UAAP.”

Twitter user Sam Guino-o (@samvilerow) posted: “Parang pyesta ang feeling ng mga UP students pag nananalo ang UP sa basketball! #upfight.”

Hannah Jessica (@Hanaaae) said: “Right now, I don’t care about HP7.2! Masaya lang ako panalo UP bwahahahaha >:D #upfight”. She was referring to the Philippine premiere of the last Harry Potter film, which coincided with the day UP won.

With their victory, the UP Maroons are in the top 4 of the standings and would be in the Final 4 if the post-season started today.

Andreo Calonzo wrote: "It took UP two years to win daw. So sa July 2013 na ang next? Buti naman nanalo tayo bago magunaw ang mindo next year."

Gang Badoy (@gangbadoy) of Rock Ed Philippines said "Okey, nanalo ang UP Men's Basketball Team. Wala nang impossible (sic) sa PIlipins. Tuwid na daan, kaya pa, kamown."

In Facebook, Mike Marzo posted, "Nanalo UP, end of the world na. In other news, I saw an honest politician. Riding a unicorn."

But the members of the online community were one in their happiness over the Maroons' triumph after being the UAAP's cellar-dwellers for so long.

As de Guzman tweeted to Albert Egana (@ajaegana): "Don't spoil our fun. Minsan lang ito."
